Overview:

In 2018, Napa Valley Museum Yountville presented the world premiere of “France is a Feast: A Photographic Journey of Paul and Julia Child”, an exhibition based on the book of the same name, edited by Julia’s great-nephew, Alex Prud’homme. Featuring photographs taken by Paul Child in France between 1948 and 1954, the exhibition also included rare objects and intimate pictures of Julia. Executive Director, Laura Rafaty, enlisted Flying Fish to convert France is a Feast into a touring exhibition, after its enormous success.

Flying Fish worked closely with Napa Valley Museum Yountville and the Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy to develop and design the exhibition, Julia Child: A Recipe for Life, which explores Julia’s personal as well as America’s culinary revolution. Focusing on her insatiable curiosity and tenacious spirit the exhibition follows Julia’s life as she tries, tests prove, and communicates how to make delicious food. Through immersive sensory experiences, artifacts, and photographs, the exhibition’s innovative storytelling devices demonstrate how Julia’s lifelong education and experiences empowered her, and how she empowered others, profoundly transforming American cuisine and food culture.

The exhibition is currently in production and premieres at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, USA, in May 2023.
