Our Role:

Overview:

In 2013, the Australian Museum launched the exhibition Tyrannosaurs – Meet the Family, which turned out to be the most popular exhibition in the museum’s 190-year history. The museum already had a strong program for touring exhibitions in regional areas, focusing on Australian-related subjects. However, it was now interested in expanding into the global market.

With their unwavering dedication and expertise, Flying Fish played a pivotal role in transforming the exhibition from a permanent installation into a world-class touring spectacle. Their meticulous adaptations, including redesigning the exhibition, revising the content, refurbishing, custom crating, and planning logistics, were instrumental in preparing the exhibition for its international tour. Their early sales and marketing efforts also set the stage for the tour’s successful launch. In 2017, Flying Fish’s efforts culminated in the North American premiere of Tyrannosaurs in Ontario, Canada, a testament to their exceptional work.

The exhibition under Flying Fish management consistently toured major museums and science centers in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, attracting over 500,000 visitors. This achievement established the Australian Museum’s reputation in the global museum community as the producer and touring partner of an internationally renowned blockbuster exhibition.

This exhilarating traveling exhibition presented the latest developments in dinosaur paleontology – from the discovery of early Asian Tyrannosaurs, the ancestors of later giants like T. rex, to the exceptional fossils from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. The exhibition, with its striking life-sized skeletons and replicas, offered a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in a world of wonder and discovery. Engaging interactives and innovative multimedia provided a captivating experience for all ages, leaving visitors with a deep sense of awe and fascination.

“Jay and Flying Fish has helped to commercialize an expanded revenue stream, resulting in international touring being a key strategic initiative for the Australian Museum. The Australian Museum has increased revenue in the first year of operations by over $1 million, a significant increase in revenue which afforded the museum greater financial sustainability. I would highly recommend working with Jay and Flying Fish, please contact me through LinkedIn if you would like to discuss further.”
