Overview:

Julia Child: A Recipe for Life explores Julia Child’s journey from her formative years in France to her role as an American culinary icon. Developed in partnership with the Julia Child Foundation and Schlesinger Library, the exhibition combines personal artifacts, immersive storytelling, and interactive experiences to celebrate her profound impact on American cuisine and culture.

Scope:
Development & Design:

Flying Fish developed and designed a fascinating exhibition that vividly tells Julia Child’s story, highlighting her transformation into a culinary pioneer. The narrative seamlessly weaves her personal history, inspirations, and the supporters who shaped her journey. Immersive thematic environments, brought to life through detailed conceptual designs and renders, invite visitors to step into Julia’s world and engage with interactive storytelling elements. Thoughtfully crafted labels guide visitors through her life and legacy while cohesive branding and graphic design unify the exhibition’s themes of food, discovery, and education, delivering an inspiring and memorable experience.

Flying Fish produces every element of Julia Child: A Recipe for Life to create an engaging and meticulously crafted experience. Visitors enter Julia’s world through interactives like a recreated The French Chef studio kitchen, an immersive La Couronne restaurant experience, and a larger-than-life Mastering the Art of French Cooking cookbook. Engaging elements such as the “Dear Julia” interactive and photo opportunities throughout the exhibition captivate audiences and encourage social media sharing.

The collection of objects, artifacts, and personal memorabilia—including handwritten recipes, photographs, and kitchen tools—is thoughtfully curated and securely transported in custom-engineered crates. Integrated audiovisual systems, including soundscapes and archival footage, enrich the storytelling, while detailed documentation ensures smooth and consistent installation at every venue, delivering a memorable and immersive journey for audiences nationwide.
