Flying Fish created Artemis Adventure with LEGO® Bricks as an imaginative, play-driven exhibition that brings the excitement of NASA’s Artemis missions to life through hands-on engineering challenges. The experience uses LEGO bricks as the universal language of creativity, transforming cutting-edge space science into an accessible, joyful learning environment for visitors of all ages.
Large-scale LEGO sculptures, immersive media, and open-ended building zones anchor the journey as visitors step into the roles of Artemis mission scientists, engineers, designers, and astronauts. Through collaborative play and design thinking, the exhibition explores the challenges of space exploration and the future of human presence on the Moon and Mars.
Built on the idea that the Artemis missions represent a new chapter in exploration, one driven by innovation, perseverance, and diverse STEAM expertise, the exhibition invites visitors to see themselves as active participants in shaping our interplanetary future.
Minimal traditional interpretation is used; instead, the experience emphasizes problem-solving, experimentation, and creativity as the primary pathways to understanding.
Development & Design
Flying Fish collaborated with Science World British Columbia and space science specialists to develop a highly interactive exhibition that uses the Artemis missions as a springboard for creative STEAM learning. LEGO bricks serve as both an interpretive tool and an imaginative medium, allowing visitors to explore engineering concepts, scientific challenges, and visionary ideas in a tactile and engaging way.
The exhibition unfolds in three thematic sections. The first introduces visitors to the Artemis missions and the people who shape them, grounding the experience in the human stories behind space exploration. Sculptures of Neil Armstrong, the Apollo Lunar Module, the International Space Station, and the Orion spacecraft set the stage. At the same time, projected media—including NASA footage and narration from Canadian astronaut Jenni Gibbons—encourages visitors to connect personally with the mission’s purpose.
The main gallery transforms into an engineering workshop where LEGO bricks become tools of discovery. Visitors tackle a series of open-ended challenges inspired by the obstacles Artemis engineers and astronauts face as they navigate lunar terrain, design landing systems, develop life-sustaining technologies, and prepare for deep-space missions. Each challenge focuses on a simplified scientific or engineering principle, supported by dramatic LEGO models such as the Human Landing System, Lunar Terrain Vehicle, and Canadarm3.
The final section looks toward the future, inviting visitors to imagine life on Mars and contribute to a collaborative LEGO community habitation. Media, graphics, and interactive experiences encourage big-picture thinking as visitors expand their understanding of what lies ahead for human exploration beyond the Moon. Accessibility and universal design were central to the exhibition’s development. Media elements are fully captioned, sound and light levels are moderated, components are designed for reach and inclusivity, and all areas offer hands-on, tactile engagement. A modular design supports language adaptability and international touring potential, ensuring a welcoming experience for all visitors.
Production & Fabrication
Flying Fish fabricated the exhibition with a focus on durability, accessibility, and high-energy visitor engagement. The environment includes vibrant workshop stations, high-contrast interpretive graphics, and large-scale LEGO sculptures engineered to spark excitement and inspiration. Each interactive element was built using robust materials designed to withstand sustained creative play, while touchable objects and building zones invite continuous engagement from families, school groups, and LEGO enthusiasts.
Digital media is seamlessly integrated throughout the exhibition, from looping projections that highlight Artemis' mission challenges to touchscreen interactives where visitors test their lunar orbit modules or assemble LEGO teams for mission success. The "Mars Color Scan" interactive enhances imaginative participation by animating visitor drawings on a large-scale digital display, reinforcing the notion that everyone can contribute to the future of exploration.
We developed custom crate systems to protect delicate LEGO sculptures and interactive components during transport. Construction drawings, A/V integration plans, and detailed schematics ensure that each installation meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and visitor flow. The overall build reflects a clean, modern aesthetic that underscores the excitement and optimism of the Artemis program.

IP management ensures that all content, particularly LEGO brick elements and space mission interpretive materials, aligns with brand guidelines and licensing requirements.
