Step inside an English country house, where fashion, etiquette, and ritual revealed who you were, where you belonged, and how the world saw you.

House of Finery: Style, Status, and Aristocratic Life opens the doors to the English country house at a moment when tradition still ruled, elegance was expected, and change was already at the door.

Featuring iconic costumes and accessories, authentic artifacts, historically accurate replicas, richly designed environments, and dynamic interactives, the exhibition brings the rituals and remarkable detail of early 20th-century Britain to life, with Edwardian influences providing part of the cultural backdrop.

Interactives invite you to explore the rituals for yourself: exchange calling cards, navigate social choices, examine how clothing changed with the occasion, explore dining traditions, and discover the decisions behind personal style and adornment.

Fashion becomes language. Etiquette becomes a social skill. The country house becomes a stage for identity, ritual, aspiration, and change.

Highlights:

Your Invitation Has Arrived
Cross the threshold as a guest of the house and enter a world where first impressions mattered, introductions carried weight, and every detail of your stay came with expectations.

Behind the "Perfection"
Go below stairs, where preparations are already underway. Explore uniforms, tools, routines, and the extraordinary coordination required to keep the household running from morning through night.

Dressed for the Moment
There was no such thing as simply getting dressed. Discover how clothing changed with the hour, the activity, and the occasion through remarkable costumes, accessories, and period objects.

After Dark
Watch the wardrobe transform as daylight gives way to evening. Enter a gallery of extraordinary fashion where silk, beadwork, embroidery, jewelry, and meticulous construction turn fashion into an art form.

Dinner is Served
Take your place at the table and explore the menus, place settings, objects, etiquette, and carefully coordinated rituals behind a formal dinner.

Finishing Touches
Get up close to tiaras, finely crafted accessories, and other jewelry, then explore the design choices and craftsmanship that made the smallest details impossible to overlook.

Come for the finery, stay for the story behind it.
