Like any good scientist, Child spent most of her culinary career experimenting with different dishes, mixing flavors and testing the results with pragmatism and passion in equal measures. But according to The Smithsonian, she was even something of a science nerd in the more classical sense, once concocting her very own “primordial soup” out of inorganic ingredients to simulate the creation of complex organic compounds in nature. How fascinating!
